Sketchbook Cover Name Design!
Students began the year with an ELEMENTS OF ART REVIEW and SKETCHBOOK COVER NAME DESIGN! Students utilized Elements of Art!:
-Line (variation)
-Shape (pattern and space)
-Color (Mixing and blending)
-Value (Gradients tints and Shades)

Sketchbooks will be used through the year for planning worksheets, Artist statements, sketching, and preliminary sketches!
Primary Color, Blending, Value Changes, and Paint tin Use Review!
-2nd Grade Student artists will discuss the Guatemalan Tradition of using a worry doll to wish away their worries.
-Students will discuss the tradition in which children tell one worry to each doll before they go to sleep and it “takes their worries away”
-Students will identify a Legend as a story that is told and passed down through time but may not be real.
-Students will identify Facial expressions within the worry dolls and decide on a mood for their own worry doll based on the worry it will be taking from them.
- Students will discuss patterns and traditional Guatemalan Worry Doll Textiles and fabrics within their clothing.
- Students will identify clay techniques and drying processes before using techniques to sculpt a worry doll.
-Students will identify and use forms within a Worry Doll Finger Puppet they sculpt from clay.
- Students will Paint a realistic skin tone and facial expression on their worry doll.
-Students will observe, analyze and discuss woven textiles, the weaving process, and the reasons we are using brightly colored cloth and yarn for our worry doll.
-Students will use Textiles, Yarn, and fabric scraps to design a Guatemalan inspired outfit for their doll based on Traditional Guatemalan Woven Clothing using contrasting or analogous color schemes.

2nd Grade Joan Miro Inspired Line Variation Creatures!
-2nd Grade Student artists will discuss Mondrian’s process and use of Line Variation and black lines to create creatures and unique compositions.
-Students will discuss the backgrounds of Mondrian’s work and identify Warm, Cool, and Neutral Color Schemes.
-Students will paint a warm, cool or neutral background using water color and salt.
-Students will paint a black line variation creature and fill in the identified geometric and organic shapes created within.
