-1st Grade Student artists will discuss and compare Mondrian’s work to Romero Britto’s Style. 

- Students will draw a Personal Symbol which represents themself as the 'Theme' of their artwork!

-Students will identify similarities in both artist's styles such as black lines and primary colors. 

-Students will discuss the use of line variation, primary colors, geometric and organic shapes, and composition within the work.

 -Students will design their own composition using black painted outlines, then add patterns within each shape in Britto Style! 

-Student artists will use Primary colors to paint their shapes to make all colors including SECONDARY COLORS using a WATERCOLOR RESIST.

Students began the year with an ELEMENTS OF ART REVIEW and SKETCHBOOK COVER NAME DESIGN!  Students utilized Elements of Art!:

-Line   (variation)

-Shape (pattern and space)

-Color (Mixing and blending)

-Value (Gradients tints and Shades)

Sketchbooks will be used through the year for planning worksheets, Artist statements, sketching, and preliminary sketches!

Found Object Animal Releif Sculpture

-1st Grade Student artists will discuss the work of Found Object Sculpture artist Deborah Butterfield and other contemporary artists.

- Students will choose an animal that has personal meaning in their life.  

- Students will discuss and compare form vs. Shape and identify shapes to draw the animal of their choice.

- Students will find objects to use for forms within their animal to create a relief sculpture collage.

Students will work General to Specific in Layers by beginning with a base structure and add detail using forms that match the shapes they identified within their animal.

Students are starting their year off by learning about Art Classroom Routines!  We all have made a Name Tag- Sketchbook that we will use throughout the year to brainstorm and plan our CREATIONS!

1st Grade Surrealist Pop Up Landscapes!

1st Grade Students Are Learning how to Create Pop Up Artworks while construction a Surrealist Landscape!  Students LEarned about the early 1900's movement of Surrealism.  Artists created realistic images that also had something Strange happening as well!  Students found textures for their landscape in a magazine and found 3 natural objects to Pop Up and complete their Landscape! Afterwards, students are using Strange additions from their magazines to turn their artwork into a Surrealist Landscape!

1st Grade  Students are Learning about the Oaxacan- Mexican Folk Art Sculptures of Oaxacan animals and sculpting their own Fantasy Animal out of Clay!

1st Grade Student Artists will learn about the traditional Folk art of Carved Fantasy Animals in Oaxaca Mexico!  Students will discuss and learn about the composite animals and the bright patterned style they are painted in as well.  Students will learn about and discuss the similarities and differences between real Oaxacan Animals Carving PRocess from Wood, and our Own Sculpting Process with Clay.  Students will Make a Pinch Pot- Oaxacan Inspired animal using Clay techniques, Texture, and Scoring and Slipping to attach wings, eyes, and other detials!   Students will create contrast while they paint base colors and patterns on their Oaxacan animals!

Eric Carle Inspired ANIMAL MASKS

Students will use textured and painted tissue paper, 3D paper forms, paper folding techniques, and warm, nuetral or cool color schemes to create our 3D paper mask! View Eric Carle's collages illustrations in the video story featuring his artwork below!  These animals are where we are drawing our inspiration from for our own!

Students are learning about the artist Mondrian's STYLE!  We are using Primary COLORS, REd , YELLOW, and BLUE to create a line and shape artwork.  We are learning about LINE VARIATION- We will use ZIG ZAG, CURVED, STRAIGHT, BROKEN, DOTTED, CURVY, LOOPY, AND WIGGLY LINES  to create our work!  In art, we will learn about artists and get inspired by their style but we will always create our own work in own own way!! Mondrian Used straight lines within his work but we will vary our use of line while learning about the PRIMARY COLORS!

 

- Students used Black Line Varietions and Pattern using Primary Colors to Draw on their paper first.

- Next, students did a Watercolor resist ONLY using PRIMARY COLORS to mix to make the SECONDARY COLORS!

Students are starting their year off by learning about Art Classroom Routines!  We all have made a Name Tag- Sketchbook that we will use throughout the year to brainstorm and plan our CREATIONS!
